The Founding of a Republic opened today

founding_republic.jpg Today was the opening of "建国大业," which seems to have changed its English-language name at some point from "The Great Cause of China's Foundation" to the less bumbling, but also less fun title of "The Founding of a Republic." The movie began showing on theaters everywhere at 2pm today, according to Sina.

We're personally excited to check it out ourselves, though admittedly, mostly because we to see exactly how long each cameo of our favorite Chinese stars will be rather than any actual interest in the meetings that founded the P.R.C.

In fact, let's play a game. How many stars from this poster can you name? We know it's a little hard to see their features - we looked for a bigger version of this poster online, but couldn't find one. We did find this set of movie shots though, so maybe they'll help!

In the end, we got about 18... guess we've got to review our Chinese actor/actress trivia!

172 Chinese stars - all doing the film for free, directed by the gov't's CFGC (China Film Group Corporation). hmm. They were able to get 172 movie stars to do a film for free - and time it for the 60th anniversary.
