Alan Greig, leading Scottish choreographer, will perform at Shanghai Dance Festival starting next week
The festival´s founder and artistic director Jin Xing is well known in China and abroad for her artistic achievements in contemporary dance. Her vision is to further develop the cultural scene in China by reinforcing the exchange with other cultures and creating a sense of appreciation for the strong cultural tradition in China.
SDF is an important step to follow this vision. The festival's mission is to present high class performing groups from different countries and thus open the Chinese audience's mind - help them to discover the richness of other cultures. At the same time the festival fosters the exchange between international and Chinese performing artists with performances and workshops.
The festival 2009, which runs from September 25th to October 11th, focuses on Jin Xing Dance Theatre as a special tribute to the company's 10th anniversary. SDF's program therefore includes three company works - one is Jin Xing's solo and other two are collaboration works with international artists, Won Kim and Liquid Loft. Also, for the second time Israeli choreographer Arkadi Zaides has been invited to perform at the festival, and will also se a brand new solo show from leading Scottish choreographer Alan Greig.
Every performance will be held at Shanghai Theatre Academy except Liquid Loft´s "The China Project" which is hosted at Eye Level Arts.
Even though the festival officially starts on the 25th, the dance vibes will start shaking us already tomorrow, as the Royal Asiatic Society China organizes a lecture called "10 years of history of Chinese modern dance". Catch Jin Xing there at T8 Club Lounge in Xintiandi, tomorrow at 3:30pm!
