If you’ve haven’t already heard, tonight there will be nice a treat for all you fashionistas out there. Ana Frau will be showcasing her new collection from her Frau Ana line as well as hosting a delectable after party, rife with yummy candy and drinks, at the always exciting Not Me bar.

Like so many of us Miss Frau left her home country to experience firsthand all that Shanghai has to offer; a flourishing creative community and an environment full of life and development. A mere three years ago, the cutting-edge designer was finishing up fashion design school in Germany and now she is establishing her very own label in our fair city.

We expect big things from Ms. Frau and can’t wait to see what brilliant pieces of wearable art she has conjured up. Her label, self-described as simply “colorful,” will be offering up tempting eye candy in addition to a plethora of tasty sweets.

We were able to catch the very busy designer while she was still preparing for her upcoming show and badger her with some questions.

Shanghai is such a rapidly changing city with an ever-growing expat population. Do you incorporate the city's theme of innovation and cosmopolitanism into your work?

Of course as a designer your surrounding inspires you! Shanghai is a very important part in my work, especially all the amazing people around me!

What inspired you while creating this collection? Did you draw from other creative fields such as music, art, or literature to come up with your designs?

Yes, sure! For me, fashion, music, art, literature, etc are one big family! They all affect each other. My last collection for example was inspired by a short story of a very talented German writer. This collection got the inspiration from comics and superheroes, as well as my time as a teenager, back in the 90ies. All the memories about the videogames, and silly TV series crossed my mind while creating this collection.

What is your design process? Do you take the mad scientist approach and lock yourself away from prying eyes or do you need the hustle and bustle of city life to create?

After finding an inspiration the design process isn’t that difficult! I become pretty much inspired by many things I am surrounded with. So it can happen for example at home, at the beach, on the dance floor. I cannot sit down and wait until something comes up! But actually, my mind never stops thinking about the next pretty dress.

Who are your favorite designers based in Shanghai? How do they influence your thought process?

Different types of art influence me! Not so much other fashion designers! So, for example, one good song can build up a whole collection in my head!

And what will we be seeing on Friday, how will it be different from what we've already seen?

It will be me! The collection represents me, 100%. So, you will see bright, fun outfits. And for sure you will get a lot of candies!

How did you come about choosing to have your collection showcased at a bar of all places?

Because a bar is the perfect place to mix fashion, music, great people and a lot of fun! And NOT ME combines this perfectly.

Where can the fashion savvy people of Shanghai buy your fresh creations?

We will open our online shop very soon. There you will be also able to find an overview of hot retailers near to you selling all the Frau Ana goods you’ll definitely need! The website will be launched this Saturday! But we will even offer some specials on Friday for all the people that cannot wait any longer to wear a Frau Ana creation.
