Life Journey (旅行团), a Modern Sky rock band originating from Guangxi, closed out the lineup Saturday night at the newly opened Mao Livehouse in Red Town (formerly WTF, Candy Club, etc.). The free show was well-attended, with an estimated 800 bodies filling the vast audience space.
Mao Livehouse is located at 570 Huaihai Xi Lu, near Hongqiao Lus 淮海西路570号 近红桥路

Now that the teeny bopper themed opening with audience games is out of the way, and we've seen how good the space and the PA is, it's time for a proper gig:
The Mushrooms on Saturday 3rd
See you all there.

And by the way ... where's the write up on the Global Battle of the Bands? Weren't some Shanghaiist ppl judging?
yeah i was judging, though I'm surprised you're interested in hearing about it considering your distaste for battle competitions.
Just for you though, here's my thoughts - I'm not going to do a separate post on it: Decent crowd, YYT staff are friendly and cool as always, other judges were nice and GBOB handlers were really nice as well. There were maybe two bands I would actually research past that night and one band I hope I never have to see again.
Cute event, but definitely lacking something thanks to the amount of local Chinese bands that pulled out. Two bands had other members from other bands, almost all were expats and one band's "fans" tried to buy all the judges beer and wouldn't quit asking each judge whether they'd judged that band the best. I could have just been really tired, but it rubbed me the wrong way.
I probably was really tired. Free beer usually makes me really happy, even if it does come with coercion.
Thanks for that Elaine.
All my writing on the Battle stuff basically says that I personally don't like it, but if other bands want to do it, that's their bag as long as they are clear what it means.
Chris does an amazing job with the scene in HK.
Also, I should mention that the performance by Life Journey at Mao was very professional. Fair play to them. Were you there? If not, you should defo check out The Mushrooms. Unless you don't like their music, of course.
Well, thanks again.
