Pencil This In: Pink Party, Electro shows, and Moon cakes for charity

collage.jpg If we're going to call a winner on this week, it's not the 60th anniversary on Thursday. It's Yuyintang, banging out three solid nights in a row of electro, punk, and more electro. The kind that looks legit and actually fun, too, not the crappy need-to-be-drunk-to-enjoy-this electro.

But if you want to be slightly more productive, there's also a documentary playing on Singapore's history, a Russian performance of Swan Lake, and an opportunity for you to donate your leftover moon cakes to the homeless.

Monday: Invisible City

In the 2007 documentary Invisible City, famed director Tan Pinpin delves into the hidden history of Singapore, pre-1965. Through interviews with a variety of people who are themselves trying to discover the island's past, from photographers and archaeologists to activists and journalists, the film makes a commentary on the fragile ties between memory, artifacts, and a nation's history.

Begins 6:30 PM. Broadband International Cineplex, 6/F Shanghai Times Spuare, 99 Huaihai Zhong Lu near Pu'an Lu (淮海中路99号大上海时代广场6楼 近普安路) ¥35

Tuesday: Mooncake Collection

Blessed with more mooncakes than you could handle this mid-Autumn Festival? Take your stockpile and drop them off at the Dulwich Senior School. Their charity committee will take the cakes to Home Sweet Home, who will in turn distribute them to the homeless people of Shanghai. You get rid of your extras guilt-free, and in turn help feed the homeless. Win-win.

All day. Dulwich College Shanghai, 266 Lan'an Lu near Biyun Lu (蓝桉路266号 近碧云路)

Wednesday: Pink Party, Jeans Team

Barbie Shanghai isn't just for the spoiled girly-girls and under-20s, you know. The flagship store is hopping on the anniversary-celebration bandwagon with a Pink Party, complete with a four-hour open bar. So strap on your heels and put on something shockingly pink, because that's exactly what the CCPC would have wanted.

9 PM-1 AM. B Bar, 6/F Barbie Shanghai, 550 Huaihai Zhong Lu near Chengdu Nan Lu (淮海中路550号6楼 近成都南路) Open bar ¥100 for guys, ¥60 for ladies

For something more manly and German, the folks at S.T.D are bringing in electro duo Jeans Team. Live electronics, good beats, and support from Resist Resist...party like it's 1949!

Begins 9 PM. Yuyintang, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu at Kaixuan Lu (延安西路1731号 入口在凯旋路) ¥50

Thursday: The (International) Noise Conspiracy

Go back for Yuyintang seconds if you're not interested in the giant spectacle of the 60th anniversary. Self-described as "the Hives with a punch of politics," The (International) Noise Conspiracy are Swedish punk rockers who have toured with My Chemical Romance and promise a show of high energy and entertainment. Local favorite Duck Fight Goose will be opening, along with Hong Kong indie rock band The Offset: Spectacles.

Begins 9 PM. Yuyintang, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu at Kaixuan Lu (延安西路1731号 入口在凯旋路) ¥100, ¥80 for students

Friday: Swan Lake, Boom Party

Yes, Swan Lake is back in Shanghai again. But this time, it's the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre performing, with distinguised ballerina Irina Kolesnikova playing princess Odette. Even if you saw last month's version, the St. Petersburg stage set (which cost 2.5 million Euros to produce) may make it worth checking out again. A second show also runs on Saturday.

7:15 PM. Shanghai Grand Theatre, 300 Renmin Da Dao near Huangpi Bei Lu (人民大道300号 近黄陂北路) ¥180-980

Yuyintang is going for round three with a local electronic music party, featuring an all-Shanghai DJ cast of B6, MHP, Yen, and Deep 19. The four encompass some of the best of Shanghai electro, as well as repping Neocha, Antidote, Karma Koma, Free the Wax... you get the gist. They'll knock your minimalist house socks off.

Begins 9 PM. Yuyintang, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu at Kaixuan Lu (延安西路1731号 入口在凯旋路)
