We're fans of anything old timey, and so these photos of Shanghai (and Mongolia, and Beijing) in 1981 have really struck our fancy. Don't worry, despite depicting the 80s, there are no mullets or shoulder pads to be found.
The photos were taken by Shanghaiist reader Yannick Ott's parents 28 years ago during their traels in China. Ott, a 27-year-old German that was, as he puts it, "Made in China," is now working in the city and wanted to share the treasure trove of their memories. You can see the rest of the pictures up on his blog site.
Besides the startling pics of Shanghai sans skyscrapers, we also enjoyed the images of factory workers in Mongolia and street vendor's children in Beijing.
