We're hearing rumors that Shanghai's premier street of sleaze may have finally gotten the red stamp. A tipster rode by Tongren Lu earlier today and found that a big Expo wall had been put up in front of it. Simple renovations or did the Jing'an authorities decide that ladies of the night weren't what they wanted the city to sling - even if it's always been a big hit with the foreigners? UPDATE: We went to check it out ourselves last night. It seems that the strip is still alive and well - the Expo work is happening to the building next to it.

Week Around the Ists

Not that I ever loved or even liked Tongrenlu, but the Expos is severely altering the city's character -- as in eliminating it.
Compared to other roads nearby, Tongren Lu is still at a better state. I work by the end of the TongRen Lu and, I'm sure no one is working on ending the TongRen Lu...
Take it easy and just wait... till 2011 -- jammed in traffic and whistling
I am sure once the 5 star hotel goes in across the street, the 'ladies' will have to find another place in town to rest their hammer.
Julu lu has been expo=ed. If it was wanted to expo Tongren lu they should have made arrangements already. It seems, however, that some of the more expensive places at Tongren are shuttering within October.
Get ready for 6 months of wowserville. Shanghai will be one homogonised sanitised cleansed and utterly boring city from next May to November. Its enough to make me temporarily decamp down to Guangzhou for my sanity.
Harmonized is the proper word gents.
