Facebook traffic from China shrivels up

facebooklogo.jpg The latest Facebook Global Monitor report released by Inside Facebook has revealed, rather unsurprisingly, that China heads the pack of three countries that actually lost more active users than it gained for the month of September (the other two being Iceland and Cyprus). When Facebook was banned in July, the social network had one million monthly active users. That figure collapsed to half a million in August, before shrinking further to 41,000 in early September, and now as of the beginning of this month, only a measly 14,000 remain. Totally authoritative anecdotal reports suggest that these 14,000 diehard Facebook users comprised mostly of smart Shanghaiist readers who know where to get their VPN and other desperate expats who just miss their friends back home.

What a loss for humankind...I couldn't be bothered.

Wait...wasn't there some sort of giant face making media related conference in China recently where Mr. Who showed up and pressed the flesh with asskissers like Ruprickt Murdoch, guaranteeing him and kowtowing foreign correspondents all sorts of rights and freedoms?

Isn't China going to be the free access media center of the universe one day much in the same way Shanghai will overtake Hong Kong, London and New York as a financial powerhouse?

Who should I blame for China blocking Facebook? The Xinjiang Terrorists?
Damn terrorists don't know when to give up. There is no point in fighting what you already were, are and will forever be... Chinese. There is no point in continued struggle as your culture and people are already dead, consumed by the spreading mass of Han.
Don't you know that all Chinese are peace loving people? Stop struggling you are only bringing more pain on yourself. Breath deep and let go.

If you study the spread of the Han, it is very similar to the way a bacterial infection spreads.

Interesting, China should technically have 0 visitors to Facebook from September as people using VPNs do not show a Chinese IP. Where are the visitors with Chinese IPs coming from??

Those would be the hacks posting great warm fuzzy groups and profiles like "I *heart* Wen Jiabao" or "Hu Jintao ROCKS!!"

I believe the traffic they're measuring is from people within the China network.
