Buy a Smoothie, Plant a Tree!

smoothies.jpg Did you know today is the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction? The UN designated it back in 1989 as a day to "promote a global culture of natural disaster reduction, including disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness." In this vein, Element Fresh has partnered with environmental organization Roots & Shoots so that for every smoothie sold today, Element Fresh will to donate one tree to The Million Tree Project. Every one of these trees planted helps offset China's greenhouse emissions and combats the desertification of grasslands in northern China.

Founded in 1991 by Jane Goodall, Roots & Shoots is an international charity organization whose Shanghai branch has already planted over 200,000 trees in Inner Mongolia. Their goal is to plant one million trees in Inner Mongolia by 2014.

If you can't make it to an Element Fresh, it only costs 25 RMB to buy a tree at The Million Tree Project's awesome and very informative website. So get out there! Buy a smoothie, donate a tree, or maybe ride your bike instead of taking a taxi today- every little bit helps save the earth.
