Shanghai Alleycat bike race sounds like purrfect fun

shanghai_alleycat.jpg We're too much of pansies to navigate the Shanghai streets by bike ourselves, but if you're an avid city cyclist with a penchant for competitiveness, check out this crazy little race we came across: Shanghai Alleycat.

According to the website, the event will take place on November 14th, won't cost you a penny, and will work something like this:

This is an “everyman for himself” race. If you get hurt you can call us and we can try and help, but for the most part you are on your own.

One week before the race we will announce a number of shops that will act as “check points” which will have stamps. Each racer will be given a card to get stamped.

It’s pretty simple and there are only two rules :
1. Wear a helmet (because it’s the smart thing to do)
2. The first person back to the start of the race with all of the chops wins.

Organized by fixed gear bike company People's Bike, the race hopes to promote the idea that cycling is "much more than merely a form of transportation." You don't have to be a great cyclist or a fixed gear bike to join, all you have to have is an interest in wheeling around Shanghai's side streets.
