If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Chinasmack, it’s that Chinese schoolgirls sure can be violent. But to our surprise and dismay, the most recent shocking teenage beat down video to hit internet forums didn’t come from Guangdong. Rather, it takes place in our very own city – Shanghai.
The over five minute long cellphone vid seems to have first appeared on Chinese video site Ku6.com last week and is titled “Shanghai Xuhui girls fight, watching will make you angry.” A heftier girl called Sister Xiong charges her victim from behind, delivering a flying kick to her lower back. Sister Xiong then stomps on the girl’s stomach, slaps her face multiple times, pulls her by her hair and generally acts like a tween chick version of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. The other girl doesn’t try to fight back.
According to Chinasmack, the girl has already been flushed out, and her full name, address, phone number and other personal information has been posted to the popular local KDS forum. The original video has already gotten close to 1 million hits.
We’re not going to publish that stuff here, but we did want to note this: Xinmin took the trouble to read through the next five days of netizen flesh search engining and determined the following:
Batterer: A Shanghai Nanhu Vocational High School (上海南湖职业学校) year 2 student called “Sister Xiong”
Victim: Business Travel School (商贸旅游学校) student
Reason for beating: According to an anonymous netizen, “Sister Xiong” beat the other school’s student after her boyfriend was robbed. But a person at Nanhu Vocational High School said that reason was “not consistent.”
Schools say: They will thoroughly investigate the situation and the relevant actions, to be determined today, will be taken immediately.
Neighborhood says: “Sister Xiong” is actually usually law abiding and will greet people when she sees them. A neighbor noted that Xiong once mentioned that she wanted to reduce the economic burden in her family by working at a fast food restaurant two days out of the week.
Public opinion: “Those other people’s faults are also not small in the matter.” Citizens noted that the boys in the video also played a shameful role by contributing to the violence.
They bring up a good point. As terrible as it is to see Sister Xiong beating the crap out of this poor girl, why has nobody flesh searched the other people in the video, including the kid who comes to light her cigarette or the person who filmed the entire thing in the first place, moving around to get better angles? Sister Xiong’s actions are disgusting, but so are all the people sitting around her, sometimes egging her on, sometimes feigning general ambivalence.
Also, with more and more schoolkid beatings being publicized on the internet, how long will it take before various governmental organizations actually address the problem?
