Threesday: Three Shanghai-themed Halloween costumes we're hoping to see

In our ongoing Threesday feature, Shanghaiist takes the time to count out three of well... whatever catches their fancy that week. This week: Shanghai-themed costumes we'd be super psyched to see gracing our Halloween party on Saturday.

Hopefully, with our help, you've already gotten your Halloween costume ready and done. But in case you're still desperately searching for the perfect thing to wear, why not impress everyone (mostly us) with your Shanghai knowledge and go as something famous that happened to the city this year? Topical costumes - Always a hit! Having trouble remembering the crazy costume-able stuff from 2009? Here's a little help:

daftpunk.jpg 1) Daft Punk Scammers

Back in February, the Shanghai music scene was rocked by the perfect scam: Two people (supposedly Frenchmen) hired a PR company to spread the word about a secret Daft Punk concert just for fans. All you had to do was pre-book your ticket for a nominal price (er... 500RMB) and wait until the day before the concert to have its location revealed to you. Hundreds of fans showed up to fork over their cash, only to have the two promoters vanish just days before the concert's supposed date.

Now you can go as this shady couple. We recommend putting on some helmets, fueling the rumor mill with a Facebook page (or perhaps renren.com or ishanghai.me... ah, remember how back in February, Facebook wasn't blocked?) and then taking people's money and running. Here's some inspiration.

Sure the news just broke yesterday, but that's still enough time before Halloween. Get a bunch of your friends so you can be a tranny hooker gang, prowling the club for naive lascivious expats and offering them what we like to call the Marcy Playground of delights. C'mon, if there's anything the actual Filipino transvestite gang's pictures (and repeat viewings of Kids in the Hall) have taught us, it's that men in drag are kind of hot.

Props if you actually do have candy on you - we'll take a piece... and we'll hope you didn't go the full nine yards and drug it. Or will we?

3) Night of the Living Haibao

Yes, we know that even without us saying it, there are bound to be Haibao aplenty out tonight. After all, who can resist taking a riff on Shanghai's lil' Gumby-like creation? But just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean you shouldn't too. In fact, it's all the more reason to.

Imagine going from place to place, picking up all the zombie Haibao, sexy Haibao, magic Haibao, cowboy Haibao, and Mexican Haibao companions you can find. And then, with your gang of drunken Haibao friends, you descend upon Not Me, virtually flooding the place with a sea of blue Expo mascots.

Hell to the yes.

And remember, there will be great prizes for the best costumes at Halloween Rampage. Come on over, no matter what you're dressed as, you could win either a fabulous night at the Shangri-La (courtesy of Ctrip) or 300RMB worth of Sherpas vouchers.

Let's give credit to guy who came to last year's Shanghaiist Halloween Party as Haibao. Truly ahead of his time.

And to those considering a similar costume this year, let this be your warning. It's no fun inside that suit.
