mustache1238691443.jpg It's going to be a pretty crazy weekend. If you're not too busy preparing your awesome costume for our Halloween party, here are some ideas to pass the time, ranging from a mustache party to a Diwali celebration to a Kung Fu show. For live music you can check out this weekend, check out our midweek music preview.

Friday: Mustache party, Soul of Shaolin

Longitude is hosting a 'La Moustache' party. We've never been to a mustache party before but it sounds pretty hilarious. It's a good way to get into the Halloween spirit without having to bust our your costume one day early. Everyone will be given a mustache to wear all night and for those of you who actually have one, free shots all night!

And for something totally different, the Soul of Shaolin is playing in Shanghai. It's a kung fu drama and has gotten rave reviews and even a Tony nomination. It's been on tour in six countries and even made it to Broadway, so we're going to guess it's pretty good. It's about Hui Guang, a kid who is is separated from his mom and grows up to be a kung fu master. It's full of stunts so it's sure to be exciting.

Saturday: walk and run for breast cancer, Diwali carnival, Shanghaiist Halloween party
Did you know that Shanghai has the highest rate of breast cancer in China? Scary, huh? Want to change that? Venture to Century Park to run 5km or, if you're more laid back, walk 4.3km to raise money for the China Breast Cancer Foundation. To register online go to www.infinitumsports.com.
8am-11am Century Park 1001 Jinxiu Lu, Pudong near Minsheng Lu 锦绣路1001号 近民生路

If you can't wait for Hallows eve, why not spend the day celebrating Diwali, the Indian festival of lights. The Indian Association is throwing down a huge party in celebration and you can expect it to be very lively. There will be fashion shows, jewelry and clothing vendors, games, and yummy Indian food to sample. The Desi band AURKO is playing too and apparently they have "high voltage live performances, adrenalin fueled vocals, pulsating rhythm with refreshing melody." Sounds like a good start to a crazy night

Sunday: Xiu Jiye and Tenderhook

If you've made it through the weekend revelry and are looking to a more laid-back cultural experience check out Xue Jiye's new solo exhibition at Art Scene Warehouse. He's one of China's most famous contemporary artists so hopefully his exhibit won't disappoint. It's oil paintings and sculpture showcasing his wild imagination of crazy creatures, scenarios, and places.

Or, if you're still in a dancing mood after the weekend, then don't miss the Scottish dance theatre's show Thunderhook. They are in Shanghai for one night only performing this three-part modern dance. Each part choreographed by a different artist and are said to be wildly different. The 10 member dance troupe is supposed to perform "exciting, original, and accessible" pieces. Guess we'll see for ourselves.
