Power plant next to Madaokou Village from Water Crisis in China
Bert van Dijk, the Shanghai-based correspondent for Netherlands business newspaper Het Finacieele Dagblad has spent the last four months with Dutch photographer Frans Schellekens documenting China’s water problems – of which there are many (and of which we’ve talked about a couple times before). He’s planning on publishing a book about it and also organizing a photo-exhibition in the city, but in the meantime he’s put up snippets of his research online.
The latest blog piece is about Madakou in Shaanxi and Diantou in Henan, two small villages that hit global headlines in August thanks to their respective lead poisoning scandals – blood tests found that young children living in that area had too high levels of lead in their blood thanks to waste water discharges from nearby factories.
