We like to joke about Shanghai’s fog/smog, especially on days like Monday, where it was so thick you felt like it was choking you. But one intrepid Shanghaiist reader, curious about whether Shanghai weather is really that bad, especially after bearing the brunt of endless jokes about how polluted the city is from his friends in Stockholm.
He took a look at a government website that publishes smog levels in Chinese cities and then extracted one decade of data into a graph, with a handy trend line to see the averages of each year. Well, would you look at that: Shanghai smog levels are actually going down!
“Or the measurement machine is being put further and further out of town ;-)” he said. Haha. Possible.
Not that it matters in the end – there are a million other reasons we’d rather choke and die in Shanghai than spend any long amount of time in Stockholm.
