It’s Day Two of the Expo pandas and, predictably, Shanghai is going crazy for them. The ten panda cubs are fresh off the plane from the Woolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center outside of Chengdu and, according to all relevant parties, adjusting swimmingly.
Says Shanghai Daily:
Fortunately, the pandas seemed to love the new home.
Their keepers said the animals started to play with a sliding board or climbed trees as soon as they woke up in the morning.
“They had a rather good appetite, the breakfast bamboo proving very popular,” said Chen Lihua, director of the care taking department.
In fact the only problem seems to be that the pandas won’t use all six rooms provided to them, preferring instead to huddle together in one giant panda heap. Says the zookeepers, the pandas had grown up separately and were only recently put together in a group. Since they’ve grown attached to each other, they prefer to stick together in the new surroundings. To that, we say AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW~
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to see the cubs until late this month. Until then, we’ll just make do with the numerous panda reports that are sure to continue coming out.
