WTFashion: Lovin' the leopard

wtfashion_1.JPG There's apparently a saying that the Cantonese will eat anything and the Shanghainese will wear anything. While all the high-fashion foreign influences over the last decade or so have undeniably eroded Shanghainese fashion sense into something more sensible, there are still some in the city who cling tenaciously to dressing so wonderfully weird. We devote this space to them.

Caught: On the escalators exiting the People's Square metro station

Wearing: Leopard print stockings to complement the leopard print fur trim on her knitted pink coat. Oh yeah, and did you notice the black leather mini?

What it says: Hey baby, take a walk with me on the wyld side. I'm not afraid to show my claws, but don't worry, I have a soft feminine side as well. Love me? Or at least buy me a bag that's not a knock off?

Gotten a lucky snapshot of one of these crazily costumed characters? Send it along to us (tips (@) shanghaiist (dot) com) and we'll post it up.

Crazy88 - you lose limbs and have to leave them behind to a blondie with good steel.

I , Yossarian, on the other hand, am a three fisted humdinger and a bonafide supraman, shall live forever, or die trying.

To be fair, and to be honest, thanks to the above three responses and some late in the day googling, I acknowledge that its ok to take pictures of folks in public places.

My sincere apologies for my initial outrage at the fun poking. Please keep it going. Wo ai shanghaiist.

    Oh, there is always one.

So, if I take a photo of a building and happen to capture some other people in the frame, I have to ask their permission also?

While it might be polite to ask permission, it is not a requirement. If you got off your high-horse, you would see this.

Not that this is really the same thing, but I'm pretty sure Vice Dos and Don'ts don't ask for permission from most of their Don'ts too.

While poking fun at people less fashionable than we presume ourselves to be is always awesome, I wonder if you would take pictures of people in nyc and publish them?

Granted, you havent technically given away the identity of the person, but i bet you didnt ask permission.

Not NY (don't know why you chose that city) but www.peopleofwalmart.com is pretty good. Besides, she's in public. If you don't want people to see you, or take pictures, don't be ridiculous in public.

Could also say "hooker" or "cougar" depending on the age of the wearer.
