Video: Crazy dog fight cartoon denotes superiority of Chinese airforce

We first came across this on Wired's Danger Room blog, which quoted air expert Stephen Trimble calling it "the Sgt. Pepper of dogfight cartoons." The video tells the story of some Chinese fighter jets (of which we know very little about) who are trying to refuel midair, but keep getting cut in line. The Chinese jets (and a lone Japanese one) have had it when an American B-52 tries to bustle its way in - which then sets the scene for the "trippy" dogfight.

After watching it ourselves, we didn't find it that insane. Rather, it turned out to be just another propaganda pic about how Americans are dicks who try to impose their own rules on international airfare and how the Chinese air force is sooo Top Gun, which leads to the American planes begging for mercy in the end.

We're wondering whether Wired and Trimble were too busy trying to come up with references to electric kool aid acid tests to notice the real message behind this: China's gonna get you.

Never under estimate your opponents, Chinese proverb.

Obviously you didn't watch China's air refuelling aircraft on display during China's 60 years anniversary parade in Beijing October 1ast. You can widening your knowledge by clicking on YouTube to see China's military parade again. You ain't see nothing yet.

China's one demonstration of aerial refueling is just that, a show. Considering they jury-rigged one transport and the Russians won't sell them any of their tankers.

And we already know of the PLA's anti-satellite facility in Hunan province.

China's refuelling capability is not only done as a show, as in the 1999 military parade. LOL! Chinese inflight refuelers are done by indigenous H-6s, not on Russian platforms. LOL! You shud shut up.

That video is so full of wild dreams for the PLAAF as well as inaccuracies it is unimginable.

    1. Since when does the PLAAF have in flight refeuling capabilities? The Russians won't sell them tankers and we won't let the frogs do it either.

    2. Rising sun on the bottom of the F117s?

    3. The J-10 has not seen a single war game dogfight, as the PLAAF doesn't want the US, Russians, Japanese and Indians knowing its weaknesses (why do you think the IDF sold the design and stuck with the F16I?).

    4. PLAAF engines are too underpowered to engage anything beyond a private civilian jet, so the only warplanes that could even think of engaging the F22 are the ones bought from Russia (MiG 29s and Mig 30s).

  • BBC1

Mr. Lamb Shashlik, the video is a satire. The PLAAF does indeed have in-flight capability. It's J-10s, J-11s and J-8s all have inflight refuelling probes. PLAAF engines are not underpowered, in fact on a power to weight ratio, they are comparable to US fighters. I think you still stuck with the mentality that Chinese fighters loike the J-10 still use the Rolls royce Spey, it does not. Most PLA fighters use Russian engines which are powerful, but are not as good as US engines in MTBUR. The F-22 is way ahead of its class and the Mig 29s (of which China did not buy any)are way overmatched. The Mig30 is not even in serial production, so I don't know where you pull that from. One fact, you know very little about Air Combat.

Lambby, these links prove exactly what I said , that the modern Chinese fighters are powered by powerful Russian engines. LOL! Do you want me to give you the specs? LOL!

"PLAAF engines are not underpowered, in fact on a power to weight ratio, they are comparable to US fighters."

Oh, that's laughable. Must be nature looking down on China and increasing wind resistance. Chinese engines are unreliable junk. Can't even build a turbofan for civilian aircraft.

The Russians won't configure an engine for the J10 airframe, so it is stuck with those little wussy Xian Aircraft and NORINCO power plants.

  • BBC1

Lambshaslik, you haven't proven anything. the most modern Chinese fighters are powered by Russian engines and soon to be ready Chinese WS-10 engine. The Chinese are just getting over the fadec tech hump. the Russian engines are very powerful, only drawback is the reliability, as measured in MTBUR. I think you are mistaken with the J-7, J-8 and and FH-7, which are underpowered by the Rolls Royce Spey engines. Current J-10s are indeed powered by Russian engines, why are you denying the fact? And Norinco doesn't make powerplants. The powerplants are made by a different company. You shud really stay from defence subjects as it is obvious you are very ignorant in this matter. When it comes to turbofans, how many countries can actually build one on their own? Even Japan, with its technical prowess, cannot do so.
