We first came across this on Wired’s Danger Room blog, which quoted air expert Stephen Trimble calling it “the Sgt. Pepper of dogfight cartoons.” The video tells the story of some Chinese fighter jets (of which we know very little about) who are trying to refuel midair, but keep getting cut in line. The Chinese jets (and a lone Japanese one) have had it when an American B-52 tries to bustle its way in – which then sets the scene for the “trippy” dogfight.
After watching it ourselves, we didn’t find it that insane. Rather, it turned out to be just another propaganda pic about how Americans are dicks who try to impose their own rules on international airfare and how the Chinese air force is sooo Top Gun, which leads to the American planes begging for mercy in the end.
We’re wondering whether Wired and Trimble were too busy trying to come up with references to electric kool aid acid tests to notice the real message behind this: China’s gonna get you.
