Baidu won't be able to compete because it will still be under the influence of Beijing. So tea an a men, democracy, uyghur liberation, etc won't be found by Baidu's mighty algorithm. Only good stories about good, strong China and bad, weak US.

Some of you folks are funny. You diss Baidu without basis. Baidu has some very good credentials. It won its market share because it knew what Chinese netizens want, unlike the expat run google.cn Not only that you folks fail to recognize that Baidu's founder, Robin Li, is a brilliant techie who came up with an innovative search algorithm while in college, right about the same time as google. Google's biggest fear is of Baidu challenging its dominance outside China's borders. Google is the biggest hypocrite of all. Glad the Western press is picking this up.

According to Forbes and Time, google just couldn't compete with Baidu. Google is a sore loser. LOL!

  • I'm just seeing a blank white space.

What, no floating portal balloons! How can this be a Chinese website without little balloons randomly appearing everywhere?

Sadly, its not a joke as the cluttered mess is what many local users are accustomed to as they do not have experience and exposure to cleaner looking sites. If Google is out, there goes the only good role model... heh heh

  • It already mimics Google, the joke is it will revert to the standard net portal cluttered look that is 'popular' here.

It is so true. I wonder if will really do that.

Why would Baidu want to look like google? It's already kicking google's butt in China. LOL!
