Shanghaiist lists all the live music performances you might want to check out from now to Sunday this week. For fun things that aren’t live music, take a peek at our Pencil This In (out every Monday!)
So it’s not quite completely a music event, but it does feature a night of 1960s rock and soul, which we always appreciate: Lolo Love Vintage and Neng Mao are having a fashion party at Dada, with dj support by Sacco, Whale and Desert F. Eagle.
9PM, Dada, 115 Xingfu Lu between Fahuazhen and Pingwu Lu (幸福路115号 近华山和法华镇路), no cover
Willow Neilson, who played at JZ Club on Monday, now comes to Yu Yin Tang tonight to continue his “Lightbulb Lives” saxophone project. He’ll be mixing beats from Peru, Cuba, Brazil, Puerto Rico and modern electronic music with jazz, Yunnan folk melodies and Shanghai sounds.
9PM, Yuyintang, 1731 Yan’an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号, 50RMB cover
Forget and Forgive and Candyshop hit the stage at Yuyintang for PETA, its new China website 81fur.com and being “comfortable in your own skin.” Whether or not you’re a fan of PETA’s regular tactics, half naked indie artists and good music and promoting the dialogue about animal rights to young Shanghainese don’t sound bad at all.
9PM, Yuyintang, 1731 Yan’an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号, no cover
The ONLY Chinese rap act signed on to a major label, Tim Wu and the Golden Child, will be rapping to a crowd at Zhijiang Dream Factory. They’ll be joined by Nanjing’s MC Guang Guang and members of SHanghai’s hip hop community.
9:30pm, Zhijiang Dream Factory 4F, Building B, 28 Yuyao Lu near Xinzha Lu (inside New Factories) 余姚路28号，同乐坊内, 50RMB
Boj Lucki, part of Sweden’s MIR Crew, will spin reggae-jungle sounds with Shanghai’s Uprooted Sunshine crew at The Shelter. Boj Lucki’s responsible for one of the biggest DnB nights in Scandinavia, so dancehall lovers should be ecstatic.
10PM, The Shelter, 5 Yongfu Lu near Fuxing Xi Lu, 永福路5号, 50RMB cover
Carsick Cars, AV Okubo, Guai Li and Birdstriking play the second Maybe Mars showcase to hit Shanghai in recent months. The last one was a hit, this one should be too.
9PM, MAO Livehouse, 570 Huaihai Xi Lu near Hongqiao Lu 淮海西路570号 近红桥路, 60RMB pre-sale, 100RMB at the door
Shanghai’s newest nu metal, emo hardcore, metalcore and rock acts – Yin, Lala Ying, Forget and Forgive (again!), Dragon Rock and 5-Pointed Star – slam on their guitars at Yuyintang.
9PM, Yuyintang, 1731 Yan’an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号, 40RMB cover.
