Gourmands get ready – Restaurant Week, one of the culinary world’s most prestigious events, is coming to Shanghai next month. From April 26th to May 2nd, some of Shanghai’s classiest joints – Jean-Georges, M1NT, Mr and Mrs Bund, The Chinoise Story, Azul and Casa 13, to name a few – will be showing off their skills in the kitchen with 3-course lunch and dinner sets priced at 150RMB and 250RMB respectively.
Although not the first food festival Shanghai has seen (There was that Gourmet Month brought to you by the City Weekend crew) as an internationally recognized event, organized by DiningCity.com, Restaurant Week definitely helps boost SH’s cred in the fine dining world. According to DiningCity’s managing director for China, Siem Bierman, the event will give Shanghai’s chefs and restaurant owners the chance to “promote their concept” and present their work to the dining public.
Given the success of Restaurant Week in previous host countries, seats at participating restaurants are expected to go fast and diners are advised to do what is almost unheard of in Shanghai: make reservations. Tables can be booked starting at 10am, April 7th on the event’s website.
So far it seems western restaurants are set to be pretty well represented at Restaurant Week, however we’re hoping some more Chinese venues will opt to take part in the food frenzy. With the event set to coincide with the start of Expo, lucky foreign visitors can get a taste of some local flavor – literally.
