Around July of last year, we made an amazing (to me, at least) discovery: Shanghai has a thriving competitive bike scene, and not just during the X Games. BMX bikers from all over – Dongbei, Nanjing, Shenzhen took the train/bus/whatever to meet at the Source for a night of watching bike vids, drinking free beer and doing sick tricks (that’s the slang, right?). Now, we get to relive that – but way bigger.
The guys at CNBMX.com are organizing their first BMX grind box competition this Sunday afternoon at Pudong’s Shanghai Yuan Shen Stadium. Don’t worry – despite being in Pudong, it’s not actually that far. Line 6 on the subway actually has a Shanghai Yuan Shen Stadium station. It’s one stop past the Century Avenue hub (where you can connect from Line 2, 4 and 9). Plus, entry is completely free, and on top of that, they’ll be plying you with beer (also free) and barbecue (also free – who knew bikers were so generous?). Oh yeah, and besides the various bike stunts and drinking, local hardcore rock band Loudspeaker will be playing a gig in the evening.
It’s a full day event, so here’s the details:
