Anyone who’s spent any long amount of time doing Chinese cooking has probably realized that a good portion of recipes really involve doing the two following things: 1) getting a bunch of ingredients, 2) throwing them into a wok. Since it’s such a simple process, several student engineers decided to automate it.
Students at Yangzhou University and Shanghai Jiaotong, and businessmen in Shenzhen have created a fully-automated cooking robot that can cook 600 classic Chinese dishes selected from a touchscreen. Not only does it stirfry, it can also steam and boil as well.
That’s everything from “Kung Pao Chicken” to “Crystal Shrimp,” according to a news report from the China Industry Fair 2009.
Granted, you still need to buy the ingredients yourself. And, perhaps this is just me, but the cooking is the fun part. I’ll be more impressed if this machine could wash my dishes afterward.
