Perhaps it is the intensely rainy weather, perhaps it’s the massive Icelandic ash cloud covering Europe — but yes, we realize that the Earth is big and powerful and incredible. However, the construction dust in the air and plastic bags on the streets remind us that there is still work to be done. To remember, celebrate, or just be in awe of the earth, here are some events for you:
April 22 – Earth Day
Greenovate is putting together a “DIY” Earth Day event, which to us sounds like an awesome earth-honoring craft hour. Indeed, it encourages the “do your part” aspect of earth day: some of Shanghai’s best and brightest environmental and artistic minds will lead constructive mini-projects to make life more eco-friendly. Included is a Jammala concert. And it’s free. Enough said!
6pm, Creative Space Offices, 528 Kangding Rd., close to Xikang Rd., 康定路528号
For the a more activist take: Learn all about GIGA (Green Ideas, Green Actions), which works to innovate standards for design and manufacturing to create “positive, green solutions.” 110rmb entrance (60 rmb for CanCham or Spanish Counsulate members)
7pm – 10pm, 668 Huai An Lu, near Suzhou Xi Lu. 668 号淮安路(近西苏州河路)
For those more family inclined, there’s Rainbow Bridge International School’s Earth Day festival at the Shanghai Zoo — complete with seed planting and stage performances, with fashion made out of recycled materials. 40 rmb entrance.
10am – 3pm, Shanghai Zoo, 2381 Hongqiao Road, near Hongjing Road, 上海动物园 虹桥路2381号, 近虹井路
