For bagel lovers across Shanghai, your prayers have been answered. Last month, a new shop dedicated to the simple yet satisfying bagel was opened in Shanghai’s Jing an area.
Hoping to attract expats and locals in the Jing an area, American owner, Henry Chang, 29, told us “We want to provide a laid back and casual atmosphere, where people can come and hang out, use the free WiFi, and enjoy the food. Our food is simple, honest and straight forward.”
Not only does this little cafe do your standard bagel with cream cheese but it goes the extra mile by offering a variety of bagel fillings, type of bagel and cream cheeses. Ever tried strawberry cream cheese on a cinnamon raison bagel? Now’s your chance.
Prices range from around 12 RMB for a simple bagel with butter to a rather pricier, but well worth it, 55 RMB for bagelwiches such as the Club Supreme bagel packed with turkey, ham, bacon, swiss cheese and mayonnaise and the classic lox bagelwich with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers.
Also on the menu are omelettes and omelette bagelwiches, which, unsurprisingly is just an omelette inside of a bagel. All meals come with a tasty spinach side salad and freshly squeezed fruit juices and coffees are available.
For sweets, I recommend trying the homemade cup cakes, baked every morning they are decorated with chocolate, white chocolate and peanut butter flavoured toppings.
Mmm, if you are salivating at the thought then get yourself down to the shop located on Shaanxi Lu N. near Beijing Lu W. For the lazier ones out there, simply call Egghead Bagels on 5213-5601 to find out about their delivery service.
