Another souvenir post?! you might groan, but checking out the souvenir stores of each pavilion is an integral part of any Expo visit.
After all, memories are fleeting, but having things like the Durian Star toy will always remind us of sweltering in line and being shepherded through endless exhibits at the Shanghai Expo 2010.
Also, it’s just fascinating to see how some pavilions represent themselves through their merchandise. For example: considering the flak and criticism being directed at the USA pavilion, it was kinda hilarious and sad seeing this shirt on offer in their souvenir store. Cocky much, USA pavilion?
Going for RMB 110, no one was giving the “I Heart USA Pavilion” shirt a second glance… except for us. So we bought one. Call it an ironic souvenir. It’s really comfy.
But will Adam Minter of Shanghai Scrap ever speak to us again?
