That’s right, people! That’s our challenge to you this Sunday, and this is for a cause you know you want to be a part of.
This weekend, kiss-ins are taking place in over 40 cities around the world for the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia (IDAHO) 2010 — from London to Lima, from Bogota to Berlin and from Sydney to Shanghai! Yes, Shanghai!
What’s a kiss-in you ask? Very simple. It’s essentially a flash mob of people who agree to meet in a public space at a certain date and time with their boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife or partner to kiss. Here’s an example of a kiss-in conducted in Paris, France:
Shanghai, as it turns out, will be the only Asian city to be hosting a kiss-in (Disclosure: Your correspondent is a co-organiser of the kiss-in) — so we want all of you to turn out in full force to make the event a huge success! It will only take you one minute! You don’t have to be gay to take part — if you believe in Love and Equality for your LGBT friends, you are more than welcome to join in the kiss-in. And if you don’t have anyone to kiss, be there anyway and be part of the fun!
As other more experienced flash mob organisers have advised, our men in blue have been known to get there before anyone else does to poop the party, so we are taking this one a little more cautiously (by not announcing the exact venue of the mob on this site). If you’re interested to be a part of the kiss-in this Sunday (which will take place at 6pm on a nice rooftop attached to a bar in a downtown location somewhere along Xizang Lu — and yes, do stay for drinks), leave your name and email in the form after the jump and organisers will inform you of the exact location this Saturday!
Alternatively, for those of you that are able to access Facebook, simply RSVP on the Great Global Kiss-in Shanghai event page and you’ll receive a Facebook message with the same details this Saturday! See you!
