Attention to all China-based Brits, your UK passport dealings will never be handled in the mainland again. Shanghai Eye has it that from now on all administrative matters regarding UK passports will be dealt with in and from Hong Kong as part of a new “streamlining process” within China.
So what does this mean for the likes of all you Shanghai-dwelling limies? As far as we can tell, not much. Says Shanghai Eye:
If you lose your passport or whatever, it will be more or less the same ie. go to the consulate looking worried, go to Minsheng road to get the relevant paper to say you are an idiot, look sheepish, etc…take said paper back to consulate, pay a lot of money, really feel bad at that point, etc, the only major exception will probably involve the postman going to Hong Kong with your particulars.
