Long lines! Crazy crowds! Feeding frenzy! Extended wait times to see stuff you’ve seen elsewhere… no, we’re not talking about a day at the Expo.
The ginormous three-story UNIQLO flagship store at Nanjing Xi Lu and Maoming Bei Lu opened on Saturday to a crowd of 1,000 eager souls, according to Japan Times. We rocked up at around 5 p.m., wrongly thinking the frenzy would be over. Instead, it was a 30-minute wait time for admission into the store’s gleaming white caverns of colorful casual wear. Pass.
On Sunday, the wait time at 6 p.m. was only ten minutes. Still, once inside, attempting to browse was a nightmare — at 3,600 sq. meters, the flagship is simply overwhelming. Add 1,000 jostling shoppers to the mix, and what you get is a great escape made by this UNIQLO fan. We’ll return when the opening excitement is over, but before sales end on May 30.
