Not that we spent a lot of time on it anyway, but it looks like Shanghaiist would definitely not be welcome on the Metrofans BBS forum. Apparently our posts questioning the effectiveness of the subway baggage inspections are absolutely not welcome. Micah Sittig translates a “Management plan” stickied to the top of each forum that was posted just before the dry runs of the World Expo began.
Amongst rules stating that “unharmonious posts will be summarily deleted” and that “characters with double entendres” can’t be used when posting about the Expo is this gem:
4. Beginning today, all posts on the topic of baggage inspections/X-rays must contain only reasonable recommendations and opinions, or reports of insufficient care in inspection work. Posters must not publish on this site any negative information on the topic of security, such as questions, criticism, boycotts, or exposés. Moderators have the right to remove any negative information on security, and will not entertain any complaints.
Bizzare! Guess complaints by both locals and expats of the security theater (using Adam Minter’s terms) sham have really struck a nerve with someone up high.
