Sometime over my vacation, City Weekend did a complete face lift on their site. And now… it looks like a blog!
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. The new design has that WordPress-y Internet 2.0 feel to it and is much cleaner than what was on there before. What was surprising to me, however, is the feeling of deja vu I got when I clicked around on it. It took me a while to figure out why – the layout feels strikingly similar to that of CNNGo’s. The font family looks the same (Georgia for headlines and Arial for descriptions, I think), there’s the same ratio between the main entry field and the sidebars, and there’s even a little four squared box under the articles – CNNGo uses that space to show categorized posts while City Weekend has categorized Classifieds.
It could be that it’s a template that works, so many have adopted it… which makes me wonder about our long awaited Istaverse site revamp. Wouldn’t it be funny if Shanghaiist turned out looking like this too?
Check it out the new site.
