Catch the Chicago Improv All-Stars on their last hilarious night in Shanghai. Their troupe has done 1,400 shows around the world to rave reviews and we are pumped to have four of their main players here in Shanghai. Presented by ChopSchticks, the show kicks off at 8pm at Number 5 Bistro on the Bund. (Tickets are 250rmb in advance; 300rmb at the door.)

The Source is hosting “Corners”, an exhibition of Prague’s most famous street artists. Explore the graffiti prints, paintings and video productions while sipping Budvar Beer (the Czech Republic’s premium lager), and enjoy the tunes spun by two Czech DJs. “Corners” is from 6 to 10pm.

Geeks, make your way to Gongqing Park for the first Shanghai Geek Picnic. Enjoy food, drink and the company of fellow geeks in the fresh air. Non-geeks are also welcome, of course! Check out www.shanghaigeeknik.tk for more information and instructions on how to get there. Geeknik is free but entry to the park is 15RMB. It runs from 11am to 4:30pm.

Today is the opening day of artist Pan Xi’s solo exhibition “Carmine” at Art Scene Classic. Using silk as her canvas, organizers have described Pan Xi’s work as distancing: “the figures and expressions shift and blend into the background,” “but with imagination…we may find a deeper understanding of what we see.”

Two authors are heading to Glamour Bar today: Ridley Pearson, a New York Times best-selling author, will be discussing his past work, his pastime of rocking out with Stephen King and Amy Tan, and his new work set in Shanghai, due out in 2010; Pulitzer Prize winner Edward Larson, author of Summer for the Gods, will be giving a preview of his new book on Antarctic exploration. Pearson will be speaking at 2.30pm and Larson will go on at 4pm. Cover is RMB 65 and includes one drink.

And if drinking for charity is your kind of thing (it is, trust us), join Shanghaiist at the Chalet for all-night Happy Hour and Scrabble. As we posted earlier, all profits from the event are going to Concordia Welfare Education Foundation whose development programs include everything from building wells and latrines, to raising scholarships, to training village doctors. The fun starts at 7pm, and cover is RMB 50 but it’s all going to charity! This is one good cause you do not want to miss. (Seriously, be there. It’s going to be awesome.)
