East West Theatre will be performing Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest — A Trivial Comedy for Serious People”. Come enjoy the dilemmas of false names, invalid friends, fearsome aunts, dangerous christenings and misplaced handbags in Wilde’s most enduring play. And of course, educate yourself on the vital importance of being Earnest. The play will be running until next Tuesday, the 15th. The Shanghai International Film Festival is screening five movies, from Germany, France, Japan and the States, today starting at 10.30am. According to the schedule, which is still subject to change, Hall 1 of the Shanghai Film Art Center is showing Same Same But Different, Last Flight, April Bride, Surrogates and When in Rome. Dada is bringing back 80s night with “Moonwalker”. From 11am to 3pm, Jaiya’s Animal Resue is heading to Papas Bierstube for their first “Animal Adoption Day”. JAR is a non-profit small animal rescue group that is committed to protecting and improving the health and welfare of animals through pet health care, education, and the promotion of adoption/fostercare as an alternative approach to purchasing animals. They’re dedicated to domestic animal population control, promoting pet adoption/fostering and reducing abandonment. Glamour Bar is hosting photographer Robert van der Hilst as he shares his new book. Van der Hilst spent time in the homes of rural Chinese residents, patiently waiting until he blended into the scenery – no easy task for a tall Dutch photographer with loads of camera equipment – to create this remarkable series of photographs of interiors. Van der Hilst shares his photos and discusses the journey to capturing these scenes. His book of photographs will be available at the event.
