“Controlling content in Sina microblogs is a problem which is a very big headache…”
“内容监控是微博非常头疼的问题.”
— Chen Tong, Head Editor of Sina
Said in a remarkably candid moment on Sina’s own news site. According to Techblog86, the article itself has now been harmonized. Besides the comment about “controlling content,” Chen Tong also revealed that many of the staff have had 12 years of “monitoring” experience – that’s a long time! – and chatted about a recent untrue story about a Japanese porn actress who offered to “service” Chinese students as reparations for World War II atrocities. The story, despite being false, was retweeted over 5000 times.
