One of the best live shows to hit Shanghai last year was Canadian indie band Handsome Furs’ energy packed set at Yuyintang (we’re not just saying that, it was top on our list of Best Music of 2009), so it’s awesome to learn that they’re coming to China yet again at the end of summer.
According to Splitworks, right now the leg of their China tour looks like this (though dates are subject to change) [Update: The Wuhan and Shanghai dates were switched. Changes are now reflected below]:
- Wed Aug 4 – Grappas in Hong Kong
- Fri Aug 6 –
VOX in WuhanYuyintang in Shanghai
- Sat Aug 7 –
Yuyintang in ShanghaiVOX in Wuhan
- Sun Aug 8 – 2 Kolegas in Beijing
- Tue Aug 10 – TBA in Dalian
I’ll admit I’m a little bummed that YYT is the location of the show yet again. As much as I liked the space, it can’t handle the crowds that Handsome Furs brought last year, before half of Shanghai’s live music going scene knew who they were. While I understand that it’s tough to anticipate demand and book venues, it would’ve been nice to dance without having my face slammed into someone else’s sweaty armpit.
Not to say I’m not going.
To get you excited, below is a video of the band, shot by Daedalum Films doing its thing at the venue last year. If you’re interested in more, we also interviewed them and photographed their show.
