Just hours ago, a construction site near the metro in Pudong’s busy Lujiazui business district caught fire… in a big way! Apparently an entire worker’s dorm was burned to the ground, right across from the Ping An insurance building. Maybe the worker’s dorm grew sentience, caught sight of the awful, awful architecture of the Ping An insurance building, and then erupted in flames of shame. Just kidding.
According to witnesses, the fire started around 1:30pm, and is most likely due to some lunch time malfunction. Fire fighters are now taking control of the site and there have been no casualties reported.
Incidentally, this week seems to have had an extraordinary amount of fires around the city – this Pudong flame up is actually Shanghai fire number three.
Yesterday, an early morning fire in an old house in Shanghai’s Qingpu District killed three and injured two. The fire broke out at 1:30am before spreading over 200 square meters. Meanwhile, the day before, a two-story house on Beijing Dong Lu caught fire at around 9pm. It was put out quickly and there were no casualties.
Both of those fires are still under investigation.
