This short film was a winner in the recent Meiwenti Film Festival held last month. Produced by the Three Assholes (their name is a reference to the theme of the fest, “Assholes and Assholettes”), it takes on the constant renovations that seem to be taking part in EVERY COMPLEX IN SHANGHAI.
Says City Weekend:
According to “Chief Asshole Number One” and head producer Beresford Mitchell, “To go with the theme of Meiwenti this year, I wanted to make a film about these people who purchase these empty shells for homes, and then hire workers to renovate, who end up drilling from eight in the morning to six at night.”
Along with a ragtag group of fellow filmmakers including Francisco Marin and James Hu, Mitchell wanted to portray a situation involving assholes to which others could be able to relate based on personal experience. “I mean, this drilling will drive you insane,” he confesses. “There’s got to be some insight into your work, so I based it off of the truth of reality that people could sympathize with.”
