Every Monday, we pick some of the coolest or most interesting events for the week, and this week is no different. Things to look forward to: a show by Shanghai’s renowned street photographer, the weekly Swap Meet art-and-artist fiesta at Shelter and… our awesome Shanghaiist Scrabble night, of course.
Renowned street photographer, Lu Yuanmin, has a street photography exhibit from now until August 12. The exhibit is a little far, but Lu Yuanmin’s photography and and BW film work makes it all worthwhile. The best way to get there is via subway. Taking Line 11 to the Zhenru Stop will get you there.

If you’re in the mood to start the week of with some Tango, then El Lunes del Tango: Tango Chill is the place for you. The Westin Bund Center hosts this on the fourth Monday of every month and includes nuevo tango artists like Tanghetto, Gotan, and Bajo Tengo Fondo. Free entrance and buy-one-get-one specials until 10:30 PM promise a fun night.

It’s the last Tuesday of the month and you know what that means. That’s right it’s the Shanghaiist’s very own Scrabble Happy Hour. Join us at Cotton’s Xinhua to play Scrabble. Every Happy Hour drink gets you five tiles. So technically the more drinks, the better your chances. Sounds like my kind of game. Party starts at 6 PM.

The Swap Meet is a funky dance party. The party’s at The Shelter. Musical acts include The Acid Pony, Tengboon, and DJ David Slackerton. Enjoy the funk and the dance mixes. Doors open at 10 PM. No cover charge and cheap drinks.

For those who are more creative or just enjoy attention, Not Me hosts an Open Mic Night every Wednesday. All drinks only cost 20 RMB. So if you have a song you want to sing or jokes to tell, go to Not Me.

Laurina Paperina is having a solo show at 18Gallery. Laurina Paperina is an Italian animator famous for depicting ironic protagonists and her use of humor. This is her first solo show.

German artist Carlo Nordloh and Shanghai artist Zhi Shaqi have a joint exhibit hosted by Shanghai Studio. The gallery shows a mixture of Western concept using Chinese art. Lots of calligraphy and Chinese water colors. It’s all very soothing and peaceful to look at.
