Yesterday seemed to be quite a day for strange accidents here in Shanghai. So in case you were stuck in a traffic jam at some point in the day and wondering what people were rubbernecking, here’s a couple of clues:
- A fire ripped through a building on Yan’an Road yesterday, effectively gutting nearly 200 square meters. The fire started around 1:20pm on the second floor of a building located at the corner of Shimen Yi Lu and Yan’an Zhong Lu and wasn’t put out until a couple hours later. It had been used by an advertising company, which had stored a lot of paper inside.
- Also last night, a Lexus in the Yan’an Lu underground tunnel suddenly caught fire around 8pm, causing the tunnel to be filled with smoke and traffic to be delayed. Luckily, no other vehicles were hurt and nobody was injured.
- Meanwhile, at around 5pm, scaffolding at the yet to be completed Wheelock Square skyscraper on Huashan Lu and Nanjing Lu in Shanghai’s Jingan district collapsed, causing two workers to be injured – one seriously, and one with more minor injuries. According to eye witnesses, the scaffolding fell off Wheelock and landed on the two workers. Both have been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
