Coming in August: Two days of FREXH
Shanghai sure has a plethora of ways to have fun for a good cause! Next weekend, on August 6th and 7th, various local artists and venues will be working together for FREXH - two days of, as they call it, "fresh food, fresh talent, fresh art, fresh music."
And it's all for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will be going to Wokai, which we featured previously. As a rehash, Wokai (我开, meaning “I start [an enterprise]”) is a microfinance group that helps aspiring but penniless entrepreneurs by financing small loans, but takes it a step further by also empowering a donor. The website allows potential donors to read the stories of people waiting for a loans and donate accordingly. Once loans are paid back in full, donors are alerted and can choose to re-allocate their funds up to two more times.
Sound interesting? Then read ahead for what you can expect out of FREXH.
FREXH NIGHT 1: Music and Fashion
To start FREXH off on Friday, August 6, Mao Livehouse will be hosting both a fashion show (with "homegrown and international styles") and both live music and DJs. On the list of performers are New York's Paper Dolls (you should check out a video of their song If Nothing Happened here), Beijing's Asian-American pop princess Kelly Cha, and several rockin' DJs (ConSTAR, HAHA and Levi Lyman).
Tickets can be purchased online through SmartShanghai for 150RMB. If you choose to wait until the door, they'll be 200RMB.
Mao Livehouse is located on 570 Huaihai Xi Lu, near Hongqiao Lu
FREXH NIGHT 2: Tasting & Art Exhibition
Night 2 will take place at 5 on the Bund and will merge a host of Shanghai's best restaurants with art (and artists) from around the world. Exhibiting will be Vietnam's Phat Huynh, Jamaica's Monique Lai, and Shanghai locals Chen Hsuan-Ying, Pan Fan, Zareen Khan and Zhou Hao.
Occupying the tasting booths will be established locations such as Hamilton House, Osteria, Azul and Simon's Test Kitchen, as well as newly opened restaurants Avalon and Madison. Kelley Lee's new cocktail bar project, Alchemist, will be serving the drinks, and cupcake king Sweetly Ever After and House of Flour will be responsible for dessert.
Tickets, once again can be purchased online through through SmartShanghai for 450RMB (500RMB at the door). You could also buy them for both nights at the same time for just 550 RMB.
