The team of Adam (lumber baron) and Griff (Haibao trader) proved too mighty last night at the Shanghaiist Scrabble Happy Hour at Cotton’s on Xinhua Lu. The duo rode fancy words such as “saltpeter” and “xeroxing” to a record-setting win. Nine-hundred-and-forty-six points! That’s a lot of 2-for-1 beverages. For their efforts, Adam and Griff get to share an RMB 250 Cotton’s gift certificate.
Shelley from South Africa and her personal bouncer put in a valiant effort, racking up 731 points, including 24 for “qanat,” which we all know is a gently sloping underground tunnel for irrigation purposes, especially in ancient Persia.
John and Jenn, from the FCC, played the evening’s highest scoring word: 75 points for “queens.”
Thanks to everyone for showing up and making our giant magnetic Scrabble board the fullest it’s ever been. We do these things the last Tuesday of every month. Next up: August 31. Mark your calendars.
