While looking for stuff on Youku, I stumbled on this trailer for a movie called 世博总动员. It translates to Expo Story, but it seems that the English name is Legend of Silk Boy. It’s a CG kid’s cartoon that seems to be based on the Expo. The description of the movie goes thusly:
In 1851, Chinese businessman Xu Rong brings “荣记湖丝 (Rong Ji Lake Silk) to the first London Expo. The pure natural silk in one fell swoop won China one gold and two silver medals, as well as fame overseas.
100 years later, during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, Xu Rong, a descendent of the village that made the silk, thumbs his nose at the family’s silk business and prefers robots instead. During a contest, he didn’t understand the importance of friendship and team building, and lost the chance to go to a prestigious robot school.
After he learned from his grandfather the secret of silk, he entered the mysterious world of ancient silk: meeting the noble Ancestor Goddess, a muddle-headed bat named Niu, the hip hop king of Ginseng and various other characters.
Or something like that.
Zhou Libo, Jackie Chan and Li Bingbing are all supposedly lending their voices to this effort. You’ve got to be kidding me.
