Any kind of holiday can make people who are away from their loved ones feel isolated, and the Mid-Autumn festival is no exception. With this in mind, we're almost about to be inundated by more mooncakes than we can eat - before you start gorging (or throw them out), spare a thought to all of the elderly folks in Shanghai by donating some of your stash to them this Mid-Autumn festival - the 22nd of September.
The fabulous folks at BEAN (who are also getting ready to celebrate their 2nd Birthday on September 17th - see our calendar) and their friends at ‘Dragonfly’ and ‘I Care Liwu’, are giving you the opportunity to boost your karma by donating mooncake’s in their first ‘mooncake drive’ - The Moon Represents My Heart - get it? We all love Teresa Teng!
Starting from today (Wednesday), you have 10 days to off load a box of mooncake’s (or more, if you’re feeling particularly generous) to the cause.
Donations are being accepted at any 5 of the designated Dragonfly Retreats (see below), or alternatively you can have a BEAN volunteer pick them up from your office (contact BEAN directly). The 19th of September is the last day that the drive will accept donations, as on the 21st, all of the mooncake’s will be hand delivered to the two senior’s homes; the Putuo Social Welfare Institution and the Dongfeng Zhijiang Seniors Home.
Although it’s better to give than to receive, if you’re looking to get a bit of two way loving; there is an incentive - gift vouchers worth 100RMB from both Dragonfly and I Care Liwu. The real deal maker, however, comes in the form of a hug from Bean president - Sheila Seiler!
BEAN ‘et al’ are aiming to collect at least 250 boxes. Help them to reach this target and not only will you be left feeling like a good Samaritan, but you’ll also be 200RMB richer in gift coupons (and hugs). That’s a win-win situation if we ever did see one.
Oh, FYI, it’s probably best to keep the ice cream ones instead of donating them!
