My brother read about this deal in a magazine, so I’ll credit him with finding me the best, most delicious, most enjoyable way to spend 150RMB on a Wednesday night in Shanghai. Kakadu, Australian grill, has an all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink (of Stella draft) buffet.
Or to be specific: Kakadu offers four hours of buffet and beer from 6pm to 10pm on Wednesday nights (they do Sunday days too, but we haven’t gone to that one). It doesn’t matter what time you arrive, the free flow stops and the bbq packs it up when 10pm arrives – just in time for their late two-for-one happy hour.
We had gone there expecting to find some sort of catch – like, that servers would take precious minutes refilling your drinks or that the meat choices would be limited to sausages. There were sausages – beef and pork – but also thin Qingdao steaks, pork chops, chicken, grilled fish and shrimp (ahn th’barbie). And the Stella came quick and, more importantly, crisp and cold.
In fact, the only complaint we had was that there wasn’t enough filler! Sure, there’s bread and potato salad and three great heaping bowls of regular salad – but maybe you could’ve included a rice or something too? A cooked vegetable besides the green beans?
But all in all, it was a great experience. I know where I’ll be the next time I need a hump day pick-me-up.
