Forget slaving away at your office desk all day to bring home the dough. Turns out all you need is a basin, a couple of towels and a few sheets of newspaper and, KABOOM, you got 30,000RMB, or at least, for one man in Chongqing, this is all it takes.
The Chongqing Economic Times has reported on some of the amazing antics of Yang Degui (杨德贵) who maintains he is not performing magic, but instead the art of escape. Call it whatever you want but Yang has been able to pull all kinds of stuff out of his enchanted basin including 100RMB notes, U.S. dollars, coins and even ration tickets.
Apparently, Yang’s magical powers came to him one night in a dream when he accidentally got stuck on a ship from Wanzhou bound for Yichang, Hubei Province. Upon arriving in Yichang he set out to find some food stopping off at a small place and miraculously recalled his dream. He asked the owner for the necessary materials and turned water into wine so to speak. Well, the owner was so astonished he gave Yang a free meal and his magical adventures began.
Did we mention that another key ingredient seems to be alcohol? From Danwei:
This reporter noticed that Yang Degui drank continuously as he demonstrated his unique skill, and the sums of money retrieved from the basin increased each time he drank. “My master can drink 2.5 kilos. Sometimes he performs normally after drinking at lunchtime.” One of Yang’s disciples said that Yang drinks to liven things up.
So does this mean Yang Deli can conjur money as he wishes and doesn’t need worry about ever finding a 9-5 day job?
Most certainly not, he says. The master who first taught him the art warned him that after learning it he could under no circumstances turn to the dark side. “The money that’s escaped today has to be sent back,” Yang said. However, this reporter only saw him send back 300 RMB at the scene. He said that the remainder would be returned within three days.
Of course, we just have to know what is going on beneath the screen of newspaper so there is a stellar award of 100,000RMB being offered to the first person to crack Yang’s secret.
And if the video above isn’t convincing enough for you (main action begins around 2:30 mark), foreign experts are being invited to confirm this amazing feat of money laundering (forgive our pun).
