It’s probably safe to say that Miss Laowai 2010, the beauty contest specifically for foreign women residing in Beijing, was a completely ridiculous and inadvertently entertaining fiasco. Now the organizers are following up… with a Mr. Laowai version.
Says their website:
Due to the great success of Miss Laowai 2010, ongoing support of our sponsors and friends, with excitement our organization is pleased to announce the first ever Mr. Laowai Contest to be held in 2011 in Beijing. This event wishes to attract the most charming, talented and special foreign men from all over China for the purpose of fostering cross-cultural relationships, charity work and friendship as well as, providing a platform for men to develop themselves in various ways in China.
Miss Laowai contestants are appreciative of pre-pageant events, the pageant itself and the opportunities which are now being offered to them through TV and media, charity work, health and wellness, beauty and modeling including development in their special areas of interest. The women of Miss Laowai and the organization as a whole believes not only women should be given these opportunities, but men too.
Ha! Well, if you’re interested in showing yourself off and/or waiting around in a disorganized mess for five hours, you can fill in the application form here or email them. Judging by the reaction we got for Miss Laowai, we may have to sneak in to cover it again – hopefully they mark which food tables we’re actually allowed to eat from better this time around.
