A big shout out to the folks at Dyce Productions who, for roughly three glorious hours last Saturday night, withstood the rain and converted an unfinished warehouse space at 800Show into Shanghai’s first Artist Battle. The show featured a mix of curious onlookers, frantic artists, expressive medias, lots of paint (both of the aerosol and oil varieties), canvases galore, 10-meter long calligraphy scrolls, flowin’ freestyle rap, hip-hop dance performances, copious amounts of social lubricate and even a hair dryer!
We have to show some love for all of the participants because without them and their fearless artistic confidence this event would have never happened. We’d also be amiss not to mention the audience’s favorites, who were crowned at the conclusion of the three hour creative clusterf&#k. Third place went to Pencrew (China) for their intergalactic graffiti piece, second place went to Scott Chrastka (Canada) for his verbified human body and your Artist Battle champion was Jeffrey Feeger (Papua New Guinea), who captivated the crowd with the energy and art that literally flowed from his fingers during the creation of his portrait.
No word yet on the next battle event but you can be sure we will be back and expecting bigger and better things…like a washing machine or something.
