Halloween wouldn’t be complete unless there was a mass drunken pub crawl – and this year is no different. Tipsy Panda Pub Crawls and Heineken are teaming up this Halloween to bring Shanghai its first ever 2-night Halloween pub crawl. The city’s witches and warlocks will be able to enjoy access to 2 nights of 2 for 1 frosty Heineken at every stop, no cover entry to 9 of the city’s scariest bars, and clubs, free flow Heineken between every stop, and exclusive entry to the Halloween Party going down at Lounge 18. It’s scary how much fun you’ll have… that is, if you’re not too afraid! 100RMB cover.

The highlight of the weekend is most definitely our Halloween Haibot Apocalypse. Taking cue from last year’s Zombie Walk and starting with a Robot March from Jing’an Temple, the party is at one of Shanghai’s coolest new art spaces, The Nut. A smorgasbord of reasonable priced drinks awaits as does the sweet dystopian sounds of R3, Linfeng, DJ Ssosso + PQ and Adept. You can also expect some live art sculpting and some kick ass costume prizes! 30 RMB cover at the door which is waived if you join in with the march!
7:45pm – Robot March from in front of Jing’an Temple 8pm – Doors at The Nut – 1147 Kangding Lu near Wuningnan Lu (康定路1147号进武宁南路)
Four of Shanghai’s raddest bands are teaming up for a special one-time-only rock and roll tribute show at Yuyintang. The show will begin around 9:30pm (doors open at 9pm), when math-rock group X is Y are joined by members of Rainbow Danger Club and Moon Tyrant to play the somber and wild post punk of seminal Manchester band Joy Division. The show then continues with Shanghai’s buzz band of 2010, Pairs, doing a very special take on Wham!, the first ever western pop group sanctioned to perform in the PRC. Next up are Boys Climbing Ropes, ressurecting their lauded 2007 performance as horror-punk legends The Misfits, followed by The Fever Machine (joined by Luwan Rock producer Adam Gaensler) who will play a set as glam rock super group KISS.
9:30pm, Yuyintang, 851 Kaixuan Lu, near Yan’an Xi Lu, 凯旋路851号， 近亚楠西路
There’s way more Halloween parties than we can count, so here’s the listings by City Weekend and Smart Shanghai.
A curious start to your day awaits you if you dare. Five years in the making, the Cabinet of Curiosities is an attempt to preserve and catalogue (in an entirely idiosyncratic way) the experience of coming to know a culture through its material possessions. Following the traditions of the European “wunderkammers” and Ming & Qing Dynasty boxes, the cabinet invites the viewer to ponder the world with awe and wonder.
