Shanghai loves it’s ladies, that’s for sure. In this town, members of the fairer sex can drink every night for free so easily. The only real problem: there’s too many options when you’re looking to have a fun night out with the girls. So in this series, we hit up all the ‘ladies only’ specials around town to rate them. That way you’ll know which are worth a sip, and which you ought to skip.
What: ‘Kiss Kiss’ Tuesdays at O’Malleys
Where: 42 Taojiang Lu; 桃江路42号
Drink: It’s a special free cocktail list of nine different raspberry vodka drinks available from 7pm – 11pm. We recommend the dirty blow job which is a shot with a dollop of cream. Actually our straight advice to you would be to hold back a little here because we’ve seen several girls get a little sloppy and one completely just lose their dinner onto an unsuspecting bar staff–too much of a good thing I suppose. The drinks here are heavy and they are a plenty, so keeping that in mind, pace yourself darlings.
Difficulty of bar access: Easy peasy.
Music: The live band comes on at 9pm and features a singer with Diana Ross hair and a voice to match. We heard songs from Alicia Keys, U2 and jazz classics like “Smooth Operator” but we also heard them some of the same ones the second time we visited so they could do with changing up their set.
Atmosphere: It’s pretty much what you would expect of a place called O’Malleys. It’s a ragtag mix of locals and expats, young and old, a few boisterous regulars and even families dining if you go early enough. It fills up around 10pm but never gets packed.
Female to Male ratio: 1:1.5.
Overall: O’Malleys has just debuted some fresh renovations and seems to be doing an aggressive marketing push (Have you seen those banner ads on SmartShanghai.com?) It’s still not exactly the hippest spot and probably never will be, but with such a generous and yummy cocktail selection, a relaxed vibe, and friendly patrons, it’s hard not to want to at least come by here if only for a bit of pre-gaming.
